TL;DR
Manager, Avionics Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace): Leading mechanical development of avionics hardware for spacecraft platforms, including electronics packaging, RF hardware, and optical systems, with an accent on architecture decisions, qualification strategy, and interdisciplinary coordination. Focus on managing concurrent hardware programs, driving structural and thermal trades, and owning qualification, acceptance, and flight integration activities in demanding space environments.

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite. Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain an export license under U.S. ITAR/EAR regulations.

Salary: $140,000–$190,000 per year, plus potential stock options and benefits.

What you will do

  • Manage mechanical engineers developing avionics hardware across multiple spacecraft programs and vehicle variants.
  • Lead mechanical and system trades covering mass, stiffness, thermal performance, manufacturability, maintainability, and qualification risk.
  • Own mechanical qualification and acceptance strategies for avionics hardware through flight integration.
  • Establish engineering reviews, design processes, documentation practices, product configurations, and hardware release workflows.
  • Coordinate with electrical, RF, optics, manufacturing, integration and test, vehicle engineering, GNC, thermal, dynamics, and harness teams.
  • Create product roadmaps, schedules, and staffing plans while improving system efficiency, manufacturability, and reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience developing avionics, RF, optical, or spacecraft hardware for aerospace applications.
  • Strong experience with electronics packaging, mechanical integration, structural and thermal design, and high-reliability hardware.
  • Experience owning hardware through development, environmental qualification, acceptance testing, and flight integration.
  • Experience leading cross-functional engineering work and managing multiple concurrent hardware efforts.
  • Must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements as a U.S. Person or be eligible to obtain an export license.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with NX, Teamcenter, or ANSYS.
  • Experience developing avionics hardware for spacecraft or rockets and owning project schedules.
  • Experience making architecture and technical risk decisions in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience scaling engineering processes within a growing company.
