TL;DR
PRA Engineer (Nuclear) (PRA modeling and nuclear safety): Developing and applying probabilistic risk assessment models for advanced microreactor designs with an accent on internal and external hazards, licensing support, and safety-critical SSC reliability. Focus on enumerating event sequences, supporting NRC licensing applications, conducting peer reviews, and maintaining PRA configuration control as the design evolves.

Location: Austin, TX, United States

Company

hirify.global Atomics develops factory-fabricated microreactors for scalable, reliable nuclear power, including the hirify.global-1 advanced reactor.

What you will do

  • Develop, update, and maintain PRA models for advanced reactor designs across initiating events, plant operating states, and internal and external hazards.
  • Enumerate event sequences, assess frequencies and consequences, account for common-cause failures, and define PRA safety functions and critical SSCs.
  • Apply PRA results to support safety evaluations, Licensing Basis Event selection, and performance targets for SSC capability and reliability.
  • Prepare PRA documentation for Construction Permits, Operating Licenses, Combined Licenses, and Design Certifications.
  • Develop site characteristic methodologies, external hazard assessments, and off-site radiological dose projections.
  • Collaborate with design engineering and HFE teams on SSC safety functions, human reliability analysis, operator actions, procedures, and training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics from an accredited institution.
  • At least five years of relevant PRA experience in the nuclear power industry.
  • Experience performing or managing at least one PRA study for a nuclear plant or design.
  • Knowledge of the ASME/ANS Advanced Non-LWR PRA Standard and U.S. nuclear regulatory requirements, including 10 CFR 50, 10 CFR 52, RG 1.233, and RG 1.247.
  • Experience with internal events, internal and external hazards, and plant operating states analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with PRA peer reviews or self-assessments.
  • Familiarity with Human Factors Engineering and its integration with PRA.
  • Experience with risk-informed technical specifications or inservice inspections.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work in a fast-paced, evolving research and development environment.
  • Contribute to safety culture, NQA-1 quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate across engineering, human factors, and nuclear safety disciplines.
