Embedded Systems Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Harwell, UK; Athens, Greece; Barcelona, Spain; or Porto, Portugal. Candidates must have the legal right to work in their chosen location.

What you will do

• Develop embedded software and firmware for real-time control and telemetry systems.
• Design FPGA and firmware solutions using VHDL or Verilog for high-speed hardware control.
• Build and optimize embedded C/C++ applications in RTOS environments.
• Implement deterministic control loops, low-level hardware interfaces, and communication protocols across digital and RF subsystems.
• Design fault-tolerant architectures and secure remote management capabilities for deployed systems.
• Support hardware-in-the-loop testing, integration, debugging, and verification with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of embedded systems in real-time or constrained environments.
• Proficiency in embedded C/C++ and RTOS-based development.
• Experience with FPGA and firmware development using VHDL, Verilog, or similar HDL technologies.
• Understanding of SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, and other low-level communication interfaces.
• Experience with debugging and verification tools such as JTAG, logic analyzers, or HIL environments.
• Knowledge of fault-tolerant design, high-speed interfaces, and FPGA, DSP, and RF system integration.

Nice to have

• Experience in aerospace, defense, or similarly demanding high-reliability environments.
