Embedded Software Engineer (C++)

Location: Glasgow and multiple sites across the Central Belt of Scotland, United Kingdom; on-site 3–4 days per week

Salary: £35,000–£65,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded C++ software for complex, safety-critical systems.
• Apply structured and model-based design approaches to create scalable and maintainable software architectures.
• Collaborate with systems and hardware engineers to integrate software onto target platforms.
• Ensure compliance with safety and coding standards, including DO-178C and MISRA C/C++.
• Support system integration, verification, and validation in lab-based environments.
• Contribute to delivery and continuous improvement within an Agile development framework.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience developing C++ software in embedded or safety-critical environments.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles.
• Experience in defence, aerospace, or similarly regulated industries.
• Knowledge of safety-critical development standards such as DO-178C and MISRA C/C++.
• Experience working in Agile teams with Jira, Confluence, and Git-based version control.
• Must be eligible for or already hold UK Security Clearance (SC), and be willing to complete the required security screening.

Nice to have

• Experience with model-based or UML-driven development using IBM Rhapsody or similar tools.
• Experience with requirements or configuration management tools such as DOORS or Dimension.
• Hands-on experience in software integration, verification, or lab-based testing.
• Background in real-time systems, embedded platforms, or complex system development.
