Senior System Software Development Engineer (Embedded Linux)

Location: Hybrid, in office four days per week in Boston, MA, Glasgow, UK, or London, UK

Base pay: $165,000–$206,000 per year, depending on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.

What you will do

• Design and implement real-time system software architectures using SMP and AMP for embedded audio systems.
• Bring up, debug, and maintain U-Boot, embedded Linux, and new hardware platforms.
• Lead early board bring-up and debug for ARM SoCs, WiSoCs, Bluetooth SoCs, microcontrollers, and new PCBs.
• Develop Linux kernel drivers and HAL libraries for system interfaces, peripherals, and user-space integration.
• Integrate vendor SDKs, BSP components, and operating-system modules into build and release workflows.
• Define system-software tests, resolve hardware/software platform issues with vendors, and support OS modernization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, plus at least 8 years of professional embedded firmware or system-software experience.
• Strong C/C++ skills and significant experience with embedded Linux, kernel internals, device drivers, U-Boot, and common boot flows.
• Experience with GCC, binutils, GDB, FreeRTOS, bare-metal microcontroller development, Yocto Project, and OpenEmbedded.
• Strong debugging skills with JTAG, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes, including performance-critical software in resource-constrained systems.
• Understanding of Linux execution contexts, concurrency, locking, mutexes, SMP behavior, and kernel/user boundaries.
• Experience with DDR, NAND, PCIe, Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C, UART, I2S, TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth/BLE.

Nice to have

• Experience with HDMI, ARC/eARC, CEC, USB Power Delivery, and USB PD IC development.
• Hardware design exposure, including the ability to read schematics and datasheets.
• Experience with low-level optimization, performance tuning, and Agile development.
