Embedded Software Engineer, Early Career

Location: Site-based, five days per week from a hirify.global office in Carlsbad, California; Tempe, Arizona; or Marlborough, Massachusetts. Relocation assistance is available subject to eligibility.

Salary: $95,000–$150,000 annually. For specific work locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $118,000–$177,000 annually.

What you will do

• Design and implement embedded software for encrypted communications systems, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 in-line network encryptors and embedded cryptographic devices.
• Develop software in C/C++ and Rust for Linux-based embedded environments.
• Implement and modify Linux kernel and bare-metal device drivers for embedded and microprocessor-based systems.
• Work with TCP/IP and networking protocols such as IPSec, MACsec, and TLS.
• Collaborate with system, test, and hardware engineers to develop and transition new capabilities into service.
• Participate in Agile Scrum and CI/CD development while planning, tracking, and reporting progress.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 0–3 years of full-time relevant industry experience.
• Design and implementation experience with embedded software in C/C++ or Rust.
• Experience using Linux, ideally in an embedded environment, with a basic understanding of TCP/IP and network configuration.
• U.S. citizenship and an active SECRET or TOP SECRET security clearance are required.
• Agile Scrum, CI/CD, communication, planning, tracking, reporting, and willingness to travel up to 10%.

Nice to have

• Object-oriented software development experience.
• Experience with Linux kernel drivers, bare-metal device drivers, standalone embedded applications, and emulation environments.
• Experience with NIOS, ARM, RISC-V, RESTConf, networking protocols, and Python.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
