Lead Backend Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Hybrid in New York, NY or San Francisco, CA

What you will do

• Design, architect, implement, and iterate on 0-to-1 services and infrastructure for autonomous operations and distributed fleet management.
• Develop data-intensive services that help machine operators visualize and monitor robotics systems.
• Partner with frontend, ML, and robotics engineers to design technical solutions through rapid prototyping and experimentation.
• Build tooling for autonomous testing, model deployments, and in-field fleet management.
• Establish core backend frameworks, engineering patterns, and infrastructure.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional experience designing, architecting, and implementing backends for complex, business-critical applications.
• Expertise in operating and maintaining high-uptime services, including observability, monitoring, and performance tuning.
• Experience at a small startup, with rapid prototyping and building systems from the ground up.
• Ability to design and implement application architectures from first principles using modern cloud technologies.

Nice to have

• Experience with geospatial tooling, GIS, robotics, construction technology, or command-and-control interfaces.
• Experience with edge infrastructure, low-latency SLAs, dynamic bandwidth environments, LTE, IoT, or mobile systems.
• Experience working with AWS.
