Staff Software Engineer (Backend/AWS)

What you will do

• Build, scale, and maintain high-performance backend services and APIs powering ION Factory OS.
• Own the relationship between the application layer and AWS infrastructure, including cloud architecture and delivery support.
• Evaluate and evolve backend and cloud architecture for growth in customers, data volume, and product surface area.
• Establish reliability practices including SLOs, SLIs, incident response, postmortems, and capacity planning.
• Lead performance improvements across application code, databases, caching, asynchronous processing, and AWS services.
• Create internal libraries, architectural patterns, CI/CD tooling, and developer platforms while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping production-grade backend code and owning infrastructure.
• Strong hands-on coding skills in Python, Go, Node, or comparable modern backend languages.
• Deep AWS expertise with services such as EC2, EKS/ECS, RDS, VPC, and IAM, using Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, relational databases, caching, message queues, and API design.
• Experience leading large technical initiatives across teams or complex codebases.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States; onboarding includes E-Verify and Form I-9 verification.

Nice to have

• Experience as a Staff Software Engineer, Tech Lead, or senior platform engineer in a high-scale environment.
• Expertise in SRE, database scalability, multi-tenant architectures, or zero-downtime data migrations.
• Experience building internal platforms and developer tooling.
• Experience in or affinity for manufacturing, industrial software, or hard-tech customer environments.
