Principal Software Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Wilmington, Massachusetts, USA — HQ; hybrid work. Up to 10% travel to client and customer locations may be required.

Salary: $180,000–$247,500 base salary per year, plus benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the design and implementation of large-scale distributed systems and services for fleet orchestration.
• Own end-to-end delivery of major features and subsystems from design through production.
• Drive architectural decisions covering scalability, resiliency, system correctness, and real-time processing.
• Analyze system behavior through metrics, observability, and performance profiling.
• Diagnose complex production issues across multi-service environments.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with robotics, controls, infrastructure, and product teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least 12 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong experience designing and building distributed systems at scale.
• Deep knowledge of system design, concurrency, and performance optimization.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Ability to lead technical initiatives, influence system design, and debug complex multi-service environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with robotics, warehouse automation, or hardware-adjacent systems.
• Background in real-time control systems or orchestration platforms.
• Experience with simulation, optimization, or algorithm-heavy systems.
• Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and reliability engineering practices.
