Data Scientist (Fintech)

Location: London, England, United Kingdom; hybrid work with regular attendance at the London office 1–2 days per week

What you will do

• Build and evaluate statistical and machine learning models for credit risk, fraud prevention, customer engagement, and operational efficiency.
• Define problem statements, success metrics, data requirements, and implementation plans with Product, Risk, Operations, Compliance, and Engineering stakeholders.
• Perform data exploration, feature engineering, statistical inference, experimentation, and visualisation to produce actionable recommendations.
• Develop validation strategies, baselines, monitoring metrics, model performance reports, and documentation.
• Support production deployment, reproducible pipelines, model monitoring, drift detection, recalibration, and retraining.
• Use Python, SQL, and dbt to create reliable, traceable, and well-tested analysis and modelling outputs.

Requirements

• Experience building and evaluating statistical and machine learning models in a commercial environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, data collection, cleaning, exploratory analysis, and statistical investigation skills.
• Strong Python programming fundamentals, including maintainable code, testing, documentation, and shared codebase practices.
• Experience using SQL and dbt to extract, transform, validate, and analyse data.
• Ability to communicate complex analytical concepts clearly and tailor recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Attention to detail, reproducibility, documentation, project planning, and delivery within governance and compliance requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience collaborating with Product, Risk, Operations, Compliance, and Engineering teams.
• Awareness of model governance, risk management, and regulatory considerations in financial services.
