Staff/Principal Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; hybrid

Base salary: C$180,000–C$260,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

hirify.global is an AI research lab developing realtime voice models, model services, developer APIs, and platform products for large-scale consumer applications.

What you will do

• Build and operate backend systems for hirify.global Router, realtime APIs, model services, and upcoming platform products.
• Design multi-provider routing with failover, sticky sessions, cost- and latency-based decisions, conditional logic, and real-time observability.
• Develop cloud services operating at hundreds of queries per second or more.
• Drive zero-to-one infrastructure initiatives, including platformization, developer tooling, and system-wide billing.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, technical leads, and sibling machine-learning teams to prioritize and deliver platform capabilities.
• Advocate for system improvements while balancing rapid delivery with engineering quality.

Requirements

• Excellent programming skills in a statically typed backend language, preferably Go, Python, C++, or Rust.
• Experience developing and deploying cloud-based services at significant scale.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Hands-on experience with caching using Redis or Memcached, pub/sub or queues, data pipelines such as Flink or Beam, and cloud storage.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across roles.
• Strong interest in direct technical contribution as an individual contributor.

Nice to have

• Experience building API gateways, routing or proxy layers, or multi-provider orchestration systems.
• Experience with analytics or time-series databases such as ClickHouse, Timescale, or InfluxDB.
• Experience with OpenTelemetry.
• Additional experience with C++.
