Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Toronto, Canada

Compensation: CA$120K–CA$170K annually, plus equity

hirify.global provides an AI operating and decisioning system for financial services, powering workflows such as customer onboarding, insurance underwriting, account openings, and advisor transitions.

What you will do

• Design, build, and scale backend services for document processing and workflow automation.
• Develop asynchronous pipelines and distributed systems for processing large data volumes.
• Build and maintain AWS infrastructure and queueing systems such as SQS.
• Improve system availability, fault tolerance, observability, throughput, performance, and cost efficiency.
• Integrate external services, including OCR and AI models, and contribute to production APIs and internal services.
• Own backend architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product, frontend, and customer-facing teams.

Requirements

• 4–7+ years of experience building and scaling backend systems.
• Strong proficiency with Node.js, Django, or similar backend frameworks.
• Experience designing distributed systems and asynchronous processing pipelines.
• Strong AWS and cloud infrastructure experience.
• Understanding of system performance, reliability, observability, and production-grade APIs.
• Ability to work in a hybrid setup in Toronto, Canada.

Nice to have

• Experience building data processing or ETL pipelines.
• Familiarity with document processing, OCR, or AI/ML integrations.
• Experience with SQS, event-driven architectures, high-throughput systems, and low-latency optimization.
• Background in financial services, insurance, or other data-intensive industries.
• Experience at a high-growth B2B SaaS company.
