Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer (C)

Location: Remote; candidates must reside in the United States or Canada

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 USD per year; $130,000–$180,000 CAD per year

What you will do

• Design, implement, test, and maintain firmware for ARM Cortex-M microcontroller systems, including drivers, board support packages, and application firmware.
• Debug firmware and hardware issues using SWD/JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and other laboratory equipment.
• Develop Python-based host tools for device control, diagnostics, manufacturing tests, automation, and data collection.
• Bring up hardware, automated testing environments, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Resolve lab, manufacturing, and field issues while contributing to architecture, code reviews, and technical documentation.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience in a similar embedded firmware role.
• Strong professional experience developing embedded firmware in C for microcontroller-based systems, particularly ARM Cortex-M devices.
• Proficiency with Python for tooling, automation, diagnostics, testing, or firmware update workflows.
• Experience working in a Linux development environment with command-line tools, build systems, device interfaces, and debugging workflows.
• Proficiency with Git, multi-repository workflows, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Background in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field, with strong communication and documentation skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with USB, USB-PD, UART, I2C, and SPI protocols or USB device firmware.
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing, manufacturing test systems, or production diagnostics.
• Experience with CMake, Make, GCC/Clang, linker scripts, static analysis, unit testing, integration testing, or pytest.
• Experience with Raspberry Pi RP2040 or RP2350 microcontrollers.
