Control Software Engineer (Embedded Systems)

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid workplace

Salary: $110,000–$160,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Design, implement, and verify software and controls for advanced R&D equipment and complex machinery.
• Develop control software across multiple platforms, including PLCs and real-time Linux.
• Develop operator interfaces and workflows.
• Collect functional requirements from customers and deliver production-ready software solutions.
• Integrate software into software testbeds, hardware testbeds, and production tools.
• Improve company-wide software tooling, development velocity, and capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience with industrial control systems and/or embedded control systems.
• 5+ years of experience producing production-quality control software.
• Experience with CI/CD, Git version control, unit testing, and integration testing.
• Proficiency in Python and at least one real-time control language such as C++, SCL/ST, or Rust.
• Willingness to work safely around industrial hazards and occasionally travel or work nights, weekends, or on-call shifts.

Nice to have

• Experience with EtherCAT, Profinet, Modbus, or other industrial protocols.
• Experience developing HMIs for industrial or scientific equipment.
• Familiarity with Beckhoff TwinCAT, Linux, and general networking such as IP/UDP.
