Principal Software Developer (Java)

Location: Onsite in San Jose, California, United States

Salary: $175,000–$225,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

What you will do

• Design and develop scalable, high-performing backend services and REST APIs for authentication and identity platforms.
• Provide technical leadership through architecture and design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring.
• Drive scalability, reliability, security, observability, and resilience across distributed systems.
• Partner with Product, Security, and Platform teams to deliver high-impact product features.
• Champion zero-downtime deployments and production-grade engineering practices.
• Drive adoption of AI coding tools and present product capabilities to internal and external audiences.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software product development experience delivering products used at scale.
• 7+ years of experience as a technical lead for product development teams.
• Experience with identity and authentication platforms.
• Strong expertise in Java, distributed systems, and API design.
• Experience with zero-downtime deployments, relational or NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-based deployments.
• Authorization to work permanently in the United States without employer sponsorship is required.

Nice to have

• Experience using and leading teams in the use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.
