Software Engineer III (Java)

What you will do

• Design, implement, evolve, and deploy Trust Service REST APIs and Trust Graph features.
• Own the trust inspection data model and API contracts, including compatibility and versioning decisions.
• Write and review complex SQL queries against the identity graph schema and optimize database query plans.
• Ensure correctness, reliability, and performance under concurrent production load.
• Improve observability through structured logging, alerting, and on-call response.
• Collaborate with Identity, Platform, Product Engineering, Architecture, and consumer-facing teams on data contracts and access decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of professional software development experience focused on backend service engineering, preferably with Java or another JVM language.
• Strong proficiency with relational databases, complex SQL queries, query plans, and production database schemas.
• Experience designing and versioning REST APIs backed by OpenAPI specifications.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
• Ability to work on-site five days per week at a US office.

Nice to have

• Production experience with modern Java 21+ features, including records, sealed interfaces, and pattern matching.
• Experience with graph or highly relational data models and identity or trust decision systems.
• Knowledge of NIST 800-63-3, OAuth2, or OpenID Connect.
• Experience shipping tested backend features with safe rollbacks and backward-compatible schema changes.
• Startup or high-growth company experience.
