Director of Facilities

Location: Oxford, England, United Kingdom. On-site role with 20–25% travel and some after-hours and on-call responsibilities.

What you will do

• Lead day-to-day and long-term facilities operations across the Oxford campus.
• Oversee HVAC, MEP, electrical infrastructure, UPS, generators, chilled water, industrial gases, and other critical site systems.
• Manage hard and soft facilities management vendors, service contracts, SLAs, and supplier performance.
• Ensure compliance with UK statutory requirements, including HSE, fire safety, COSHH, and planned maintenance obligations.
• Lead local facilities teams and coordinate space planning, landlord relationships, site reconfigurations, and infrastructure-heavy fit-out projects.
• Support facilities operations at other UK sites and potentially regional offices in Europe, including 24/7 vendor assistance.

Requirements

• 15–20 years of progressive experience in facilities management, property management, or corporate real estate.
• Senior UK or multi-site leadership experience in a technically complex environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of MEP, HVAC, electrical infrastructure, building services, and planned maintenance.
• Experience with laboratories, R&D, manufacturing, data centres, critical infrastructure, or similar sites.
• Proven ability to lead facilities teams, manage vendors, and deliver infrastructure, relocation, or fit-out projects.
• A relevant degree or professional qualification in facilities management, building surveying, engineering, or a related field is useful.

Nice to have

• IWFM or MRICS qualification.
• R&D laboratory, cryogenics, or CAD experience.
