Director, Cloud Engineering

Location: Remote; primary locations are Waterloo, Toronto, or Ottawa, Canada

Salary: CAD 200,000–250,000 per year

What you will do

• Define and execute the cloud platform strategy for SaaS products and long-term business objectives.
• Lead cloud infrastructure, platform operations, observability, identity services, CI/CD, disaster recovery, incident management, and governance.
• Drive secure-by-default platforms and readiness for FedRAMP and other regulatory requirements.
• Own cloud cost governance, forecasting, budgeting, optimization, and FinOps practices.
• Evaluate and operationalize AI platforms, tooling, governance, monitoring, and infrastructure spend.
• Build and lead cloud and platform engineering teams while improving developer experience and self-service capabilities.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or related technical disciplines.
• 5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering managers or technical teams.
• Deep expertise with public cloud platforms, preferably AWS, plus experience building and maintaining private cloud infrastructure.
• Experience operating large-scale SaaS platforms in production.
• Strong knowledge of cloud security, compliance, governance, risk management, financial management, and cost optimization.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, executive presentation, strategic initiative, and technology vendor management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with FedRAMP, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance frameworks.
• Experience building platform engineering or developer experience organizations.
• Familiarity with AI and machine learning infrastructure, governance, identity and access management, observability, and reliability engineering.
• Experience in high-growth SaaS organizations.
