TL;DR
Software Engineer, Test (SDET) (LiveOps): Building automated API, integration, and end-to-end testing for BRINC's cloud-based LiveOps platform, with an accent on real-time video, teleoperation, fleet management, security controls, and autonomy model validation. Focus on designing test infrastructure, integrating quality gates into CI/CD, and solving performance, reliability, and observability challenges for mission-critical public safety services.

Location: Seattle, WA, USA; hybrid work required.

Salary: $165,000–$205,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and maintain automated API, integration, end-to-end, and regression test frameworks for the LiveOps web platform and backend services.
  • Test live video streaming, teleoperation, fleet management, data management, and third-party integrations.
  • Validate IAM, authentication, authorization, security controls, and sensitive public safety data protection.
  • Validate machine learning and computer vision outputs, including object detection, segmentation, classification, confidence thresholds, and model regressions.
  • Test observability and failure detection through alerting pipelines, DynamoDB Streams, and CloudWatch alarms.
  • Integrate tests into CI/CD, maintain test infrastructure and data, perform performance and load testing, and report release readiness.

Requirements

  • 5–12 years of experience in software test engineering, SDET, or quality engineering for web and cloud platforms.
  • Strong programming skills in TypeScript and Python.
  • Hands-on experience building web and API automation with Playwright, including end-to-end and reporting frameworks.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Linux, bash, cloud platforms, and distributed service-based architectures.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills for cross-functional engineering collaboration.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

  • Experience testing real-time or streaming systems such as WebRTC, RTSP, WebSockets, or low-latency data pipelines.
  • Experience with performance and load testing tools such as k6, JMeter, Locust, or Gatling.
  • Experience testing hardware, IoT, robotics, drones, UAVs, or public safety systems.
  • Experience with AWS Lambda, DynamoDB Streams, third-party API contract testing, or SOC 2 compliance.
  • Experience establishing test automation from scratch in a fast-paced startup environment.
