Software Engineering Manager (Aerospace)

Location: Remote in eligible U.S. states or the United Kingdom; approximately 20% travel to customer, vendor, partner, and company locations.

Salary: $175,000–$265,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Lead and manage a software engineering team responsible for backend services, APIs, and product integrations.
• Set priorities, manage delivery commitments, identify risks and blockers, and communicate technical tradeoffs.
• Guide architecture and design for scalable, reliable, secure, maintainable backend and integration systems.
• Coordinate with external vendors and technology partners on requirements, interfaces, testing, dependencies, and issue resolution.
• Collaborate with Program Engineering, DevOps, QA, Security, Product, and Program Management to deliver complete solutions.
• Establish practices for documentation, code quality, automated testing, release readiness, observability, runbooks, and production support.

Requirements

• Experience in backend, platform, distributed-system, or integration-focused software engineering environments.
• Direct experience managing or formally leading software engineering teams, including coaching, feedback, career development, and team culture.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, service-oriented or microservice architectures, event-driven systems, and resilient integration workflows.
• Experience with Kotlin, GraphQL, Kafka, and TypeScript.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, automated testing, release management, observability, security, and production operations.
• Active or prior TS/SCI clearance required.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating commercial, government, customer-provided, or vendor-managed software platforms.
• Experience coordinating delivery with third-party vendors operating separate roadmaps and release processes.
• Experience in classified, aerospace, defense, national security, space situational awareness, or other mission-critical environments.
• Experience managing geographically distributed or remote engineering teams.
