TL;DR
Mechanical Engineering Co-op (Climate Tech): Supporting mechanical engineering, piping design, equipment development, and troubleshooting at Direct Air Capture facilities with an accent on heat transfer, hydraulic and structural calculations, materials, and engineering documentation. Focus on developing specifications, reviewing designs for code compliance, analyzing process equipment fitness for service, and solving plant and laboratory equipment problems.

Location: On-site in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada; Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week. Relocation support includes four weeks of company-paid accommodation.

Salary: CAD 22–26 per hour. Temporary co-op term of 8 months or longer; expected start in September 2026.

What you will do

  • Provide mechanical engineering support to operations, major projects, and technology development teams.
  • Support on-site projects through engineering judgments, calculations, and Management of Change processes.
  • Develop piping, insulation, equipment, support, and frame designs, including drawings and bills of materials.
  • Perform heat transfer, hydraulic, stress, structural, and fitness-for-service analyses.
  • Troubleshoot plant and laboratory equipment, support hand assembly and prototyping, and review designs for code compliance.
  • Develop specifications, review vendor documents, and support engineering document control and approval.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution in the third or fourth year.
  • Relevant Mechanical Engineering BEng or BASc program preferred.
  • Motivated curiosity and mechanical aptitude.
  • Keen interest in piping design and material science.
  • Ability to work on-site in Squamish, in all weather conditions and noisy environments.
  • Safe handling of chemical products is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Excel, Python, MathCAD, Autodesk Inventor, or other 3D design tools.
  • Knowledge of ASME, CSA, National Building Code, or other relevant industry codes and standards.
