Hermetics Systems Development Co-op Student

Location: Onsite in Ottawa, Canada

Pay range: CAD 24–35 per hour

Develops optical and photonic solutions for high-speed networks, cloud computing, AI and ML data centers, telecom, and advanced manufacturing.

What you will do

• Learn and support hermetic sealing processes, automation software architecture, and manufacturing data management systems.
• Develop and execute assembly and sealing processes for optical packages, including material preparation, seal characterization, and testing.
• Design experiments with controlled process variations to investigate factors and optimize processes.
• Modify software for hermetic process automation and process data acquisition, storage, and analysis.
• Work in R&D laboratory and clean room environments with industrial machinery.
• Present experimental findings and provide progress updates and reports.

Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
• Be in the third or fourth year of Engineering Physics, Nanotechnology Engineering, Mechatronics, Materials, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering or science discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to design, conduct, and analyze experiments.
• Knowledge or interest in materials science and experience interpreting mechanical part or assembly drawings.
• Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, communication, collaboration, and experimental data analysis skills.
• Must be eligible to complete a background check.

Nice to have

• Experience using and troubleshooting industrial machinery.
• Experience with software or systems requirements and architecture definition.
• Familiarity with VB, Python, computer vision, and AI.
