Staff Engineer (Backend)

Salary: $200,000–$400,000 per year, plus bonus and equity

What you will do

• Shape the technical direction and architecture of backend systems and agent infrastructure.
• Lead complex, ambiguous, and high-stakes technical initiatives across the company.
• Design systems that balance speed, reliability, complexity, and large-scale growth.
• Write production code, own systems, and ship features hands-on.
• Set standards for code review, system design, and operational excellence.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate across team boundaries without formal people management.

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience and a track record of leading complex projects.
• Strong ability to articulate system design opinions and technical trade-offs.
• Ability to turn vague problems into clear technical approaches with limited guidance.
• Excellent coding skills and a high standard for engineering quality.
• Experience building systems at scale and understanding failure modes at different orders of magnitude.
• Hands-on experience with Python, Django or FastAPI, TypeScript or Node.js, AWS, Kubernetes, and Postgres.
