AI Research Scientist (AI)

Location: Remote, United States or United Kingdom. US-based candidates must reside in one of the listed eligible US states; candidates outside the US may be hired only from the United Kingdom. An active US Security Clearance is required.

Salary: $120,000–$170,000 annually, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Research and develop AI systems, models, and advanced machine learning algorithms that augment physics-driven modeling and simulation systems.
• Develop AI-powered simulation tooling using reinforcement learning, multi-agent systems, and hybrid modeling approaches.
• Build AI-powered solutions for mission-critical modeling and decision-support needs with research, engineering, and product teams.
• Draft and review conference and journal articles, presentations, and technical invention disclosures.
• Support the integration of novel algorithms and models into prototypes and AI systems across the platform.

Requirements

• Active US Security Clearance at Secret level or higher is required; Top Secret is preferred.
• Master’s degree in a related field with at least 2 years of similar experience, or a PhD with relevant research projects.
• Demonstrable AI/ML experience, including deep learning, generative models, agentic systems, reinforcement learning, computer vision, or related research areas.
• Software development experience with object-oriented and functional programming principles, plus expertise in at least one modern high-level language such as Python, R, C++, or Java.
• Experience with collaborative source-code management, code reviews, and CI/CD.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience fine-tuning LLMs, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and domain adaptation.
• Experience with reinforcement learning, multi-agent reinforcement learning, neural networks, transformer architectures, and optimization methods.
• Experience building simulation frameworks, evaluation harnesses, AI training pipelines, APIs, microservices, or reusable internal tools.
• Peer-reviewed publications, conference papers, or presentations in science or engineering.
• Experience with physics-based simulation, statistical methods, parallel computing, GPU acceleration, space, or astrodynamics.
