TL;DR
Senior/Principal Design Reliability Engineer (Aerospace): Building and standardizing design processes, qualification frameworks, and hardware development practices for aerospace and defense components with an accent on requirements management, design reviews, configuration control, and mechanical or electrical engineering. Focus on reducing design risk, establishing analysis and testing standards, diagnosing qualification failures, and guiding cross-functional hardware teams from concept through production.

Location: El Segundo, California, United States; onsite. Applicants must be U.S. persons under ITAR, including U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons.

Annual salary: $150,000–$225,000 USD

What you will do

  • Create and maintain a standard process for digesting and tracking customer requirements.
  • Lead customer requirements discussions, challenge requirements where appropriate, and provide risk-focused feedback during product development.
  • Attend design reviews, track actions through closure, and own the CAD release approval process, including systems such as Teamcenter, NX, or Altium.
  • Develop company-wide design guides and standards for component selection, analysis, electromechanical systems, hydraulics, avionics, and hardware qualification.
  • Support qualification failure root-cause analysis, corrective actions, configuration management, and identification of design gaps across factories.
  • Mentor engineering teams and collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and build engineering.

Requirements

  • Substantial mechanical or electrical engineering experience with aerospace or defense hardware from concept through flight qualification and production.
  • Deep expertise in at least one mechanical or electrical discipline, with working fluency across adjacent areas.
  • Hands-on, lab-comfortable experience and strong engineering first-principles knowledge.
  • Experience with hand calculations, FEA, and other simulation or analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, DO-160, and other aerospace qualification frameworks.
  • Independent, direct, action-oriented ownership with the ability to guide peers and work cross-functionally.
