GIS Specialist (Energy)

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain an internal geospatial data environment covering electrification, socioeconomic, grid, demographic, mobility, and operational datasets.
• Develop geospatial databases and integrate sales, agent network, customer, asset, and operational data into GIS platforms.
• Automate GIS workflows and improve spatial data processing through custom scripts.
• Work with Data and BI teams to incorporate GIS outputs into Tableau, Power BI, dashboards, and planning tools.
• Develop or coordinate interactive web-based visualizations and layered GIS maps, and integrate market potential models into mobile applications.
• Present spatial insights to non-technical teams, enable effective use of geospatial tools, and coordinate with external GIS partners and data providers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, Data Science, Energy Planning, or a related field.
• Experience applying GIS in the energy sector, including electrification planning, grid expansion modelling, or off-grid market assessment.
• Experience with open-source or commercial GIS platforms such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or equivalent enterprise systems.
• Experience automating geospatial workflows with scripting languages, preferably Python and GeoPandas.
• Familiarity with African electrification, development, census, demographic, night-time lights, and national energy datasets.
• Experience with end-to-end GIS systems, cloud data pipelines, APIs, and tools such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, plus strong communication and storytelling skills.
