Staff Infrastructure Engineer (OpenTofu)

Location: Hybrid work in the United States, with a preference for Washington, D.C.-based candidates; US citizenship required

Salary: $195,000–$220,000 base salary per year, plus potential equity, bonuses, and other compensation

What you will do

• Manage infrastructure for backend services, machine learning modules exposed through REST APIs, and React-based web applications.
• Design, automate, and scale deployments across company data centers and AWS.
• Develop infrastructure as code and configuration management using OpenTofu, Terraform, Ansible, and related tools.
• Operate containerized workloads and Kubernetes/EKS environments.
• Improve observability, operational performance, reliability, and security using AWS-native services.
• Collaborate with DevOps, platform, data science, security, and product teams while mentoring engineers and leading major projects.

Requirements

• US citizenship is required.
• Experience operating in highly regulated environments under FedRAMP, FISMA, and IL4/5.
• 8+ years of professional industry experience, including 2+ years at a SaaS startup.
• 2+ years of software engineering experience and deep experience with Terraform/OpenTofu using DRY methodology.
• Strong AWS, containerization, and Kubernetes/EKS experience; AWS GovCloud experience is advantageous.
• Experience with firewalls such as Palo Alto, relational databases, PostgreSQL, technical documentation, and Agile development practices.

• AWS GovCloud experience.
• Experience with AWS-native observability and operational performance practices.
