Foundational Software Engineer (Infrastructure)

Location: Hybrid in the San Francisco Bay Area, United States

Salary: $180,000–$300,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Design and build scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure for critical APIs, services, and data pipelines.
• Define infrastructure architecture and technical direction for performance, observability, and fault tolerance.
• Improve system reliability, monitoring, and incident response.
• Automate infrastructure management with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and container orchestration.
• Collaborate with product, platform, and data engineering teams to support rapid feature development without compromising stability.
• Establish operational excellence, disaster recovery, and distributed systems best practices.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience building and scaling backend or infrastructure systems in high-growth environments.
• Proficiency in Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, and AWS or equivalent cloud platforms.
• Experience managing containerized workloads with Kubernetes, ECS, or similar tools.
• Expertise in observability tooling and monitoring pipelines, such as Datadog, Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry.
• Experience designing fault-tolerant distributed systems at scale, debugging complex systems, and optimizing performance.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in payments, tax, accounting, or regulatory technology.
• Infrastructure or platform engineering experience, including CI/CD and observability.
• Experience scaling monolith-to-service architectures or event-driven systems.
• Familiarity with GraphQL, Kafka, Terraform, or additional container orchestration tools.
