TL;DR
Mechanical Design Engineer (Fuel Manufacturing) (Advanced Fission): Developing manufacturable mechanical systems and equipment components for fuel fabrication facilities with an accent on 3D CAD design, fabrication readiness, and regulatory compliance. Focus on coordinating thermal, structural, fatigue, and safety analyses, performing DFM/DFA and tolerance studies, and advancing high-integrity designs through fabrication and assembly.

Location: Idaho Falls, Idaho, or remote within the United States. Remote employees must travel to hirify.global headquarters in Santa Clara, California, twice per quarter based on business or team needs.

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 annually.

hirify.global develops fast fission power plants, nuclear fuel recycling technologies, and a domestic supply chain for critical radioisotopes.

What you will do

  • Develop and own mechanical equipment and component designs for fuel fabrication facilities.
  • Translate functional and facility requirements into robust 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Coordinate with analysis teams on thermal, structural, fatigue, and safety analyses to validate designs.
  • Lead design reviews and evaluate designs for deficiencies, manufacturability, tolerances, fabrication, and assembly.
  • Collaborate with vendors, fabrication partners, consultants, and engineering firms to mature designs and support production.
  • Improve mechanical design processes, tools, standards, and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 5–10 years of experience, including 4+ years in mechanical or structural design within aerospace, automotive, energy, or industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, including parts, large assemblies, and detailed drawings, with experience using PDM/PLM version control tools.
  • Strong knowledge of DFM, DFA, tolerance stack-up analysis, material selection, manufacturing methods, and fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to produce and interpret engineering drawings using GD&T in line with ASME Y14.5 or similar standards.
  • Remote employees must be able to travel to Santa Clara headquarters twice per quarter.

Nice to have

  • Experience with large structural weldments, mechanical joints, and large-scale fabrication.
  • Experience with high-integrity or safety-critical systems in nuclear, aerospace, defense, or heavy industry.
  • Experience leading hardware projects from concept and design through testing and production.
  • Knowledge of thermal-mechanical analysis, high-temperature design, nuclear fission, or radiation effects on materials.
  • Exposure to ANSYS or Python.
