TL;DR
Turbomachinery Mechanical Designer (High-Temperature Power Conversion): Designing static and rotating components for power-generation turbomachinery with an accent on manufacturability, efficiency, material selection, and robust component sizing. Focus on developing 3D CAD models and drawings, coordinating structural and thermal analyses, and taking components from design through testing and full-scale production.

Location: Torrance, California, United States; onsite. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Salary: $140,000–$215,000 USD per year.

What you will do

  • Lead the mechanical design of assigned static and rotating turbomachinery components.
  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks, Creo, or NX.
  • Apply advanced GD&T and tolerance analysis to support robust, manufacturable designs.
  • Facilitate structural, thermal, and other analyses required for component design and procurement.
  • Select materials while balancing performance, lead time, and cost.
  • Interface with internal and external machine shops and own components through testing and full-scale production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a mechanical designer.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and material selection.
  • Experience with high-temperature components and materials.
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous, early-stage turbomachinery design environment.
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency required for work authorization.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience selecting high-temperature metals.
  • Experience with turbomachinery, gas turbines, gas compressors, turbopumps, or turboexpanders.
  • Experience with supercritical CO2.
  • Experience with basic structural or thermal analysis for component sizing.
