Senior / Staff Mechanical Engineer - R&D (Robotics)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; occasional work from home is available when collaboration is not needed. Travel for new site deployments may reach 30% for several months each year.

Salary: $135,000–$175,000 per year, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Productize proprietary automation technology and develop new equipment and functionality for complex multi-robot systems.
• Own automation system design for robust performance, efficient deployment, large-scale manufacturing, lifetime productivity, and reliability.
• Lead cost reduction, reliability improvements, product changes, and data-driven validation of design improvements.
• Lead 3D CAD and BOM generation, detailed mechanical design, and component and assembly drawings using GD&T.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing to develop processes, tests, and procedures that improve reliability and assembly efficiency.
• Work with NPI and Operations to deploy hardware at new facilities.

Requirements

• 4–8 years of experience designing and building complex mechanical systems.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with DFM, DFMEA, 8D, Six Sigma, CAD, and relevant engineering tools; SolidWorks is preferred.
• Hands-on troubleshooting skills and the ability to develop and execute solutions to complex issues.
• Ability to travel for new site deployments, potentially up to 30% of the time for several months each year.
• Interest in working in a startup environment and creating measurable environmental impact.

Nice to have

• Expertise in SolidWorks PDM and Arena Solutions PLM.
• Experience bringing concepts into production quickly and overseeing products manufactured at scale.
• Experience with motor system sizing, robust automation equipment, food technology, or automation.
