TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer II (Aerospace): Designing, analyzing, prototyping, and testing spaceflight bioinstrumentation hardware, including electromechanical and microfluidic systems, from early concepts through deployment with an accent on mechanical CAD, materials science, fabrication, and design for manufacturing. Focus on developing physical prototypes, evaluating design tradeoffs, supporting assembly and integration, and transitioning hardware into production.
Location: On-site in Los Angeles, California; candidates must be based in Los Angeles or willing to relocate there.
Salary: $140,000–$160,000 annually

What you will do
- Design and analyze mechanical hardware for spaceflight bioinstrumentation, including electromechanical and microfluidic systems.
- Develop, test, and document system prototypes from early concepts through deployment.
- Use FDM, SLA, laser cutting, machining, and other rapid prototyping techniques to evaluate and refine designs.
- Create CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation for fabrication and manufacturing.
- Partner with manufacturing teams on Design for Manufacturing reviews and transition designs into production.
- Support assembly, integration, and testing of complete flight systems.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical and structural analysis.
- Strong mechanical CAD modeling and design experience.
- Deep understanding of materials science, material properties, and compatibility, particularly polymers.
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing principles, CAM processes, and fabrication techniques.
- Proficiency with FDM, SLA, laser cutting, machining, and mechanical analysis software such as ANSYS or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience building, testing, iterating, and making engineering decisions for physical systems.
Nice to have
- Experience designing hardware for aerospace, spaceflight, robotics, medical devices, laboratory instrumentation, or other complex engineered systems.
- Knowledge of electromechanical systems, microfluidics, precision mechanisms, or instrumentation.
- Experience supporting assembly, integration, and testing activities.
- Startup or early-stage engineering experience.
- Personal technical projects involving robotics, automotive systems, machining, electronics, or fabrication.
