TL;DR
Senior Build Reliability Engineer (Propulsion) (aerospace hardware and propulsion): Connecting design requirements, manufacturing execution, and flight performance to improve propulsion hardware reliability with an accent on defect prevention, failure diagnosis, and quality control. Location: Redondo Beach, United States; workplace type: Onsite. Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain a U.S. export license due to ITAR and EAR requirements.

Salary: $140,000–$170,000 per year, plus potential stock options and benefits.

What you will do

  • Investigate and eliminate build defects and failures through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Develop inspection requirements, acceptance criteria, quality control processes, and closeout inspections for propulsion hardware.
  • Perform development testing and provide design-for-reliability guidance during design reviews and build planning.
  • Improve MRP and ERP modules for hardware traceability, data collection, and reliability.
  • Develop build quality metrics, maintain inspection and process-control specifications, and optimize verification using lean principles.
  • Train and certify manufacturing technicians, collaborate with supply chain on vendor quality, and drive hardware containment and corrective actions to completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in hardware manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, or high-reliability systems.
  • Experience supporting production builds, integration, or testing of primary structures or complex mechanical and electromechanical systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis experience.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of GD&T.
  • U.S. person status or eligibility to obtain an applicable U.S. export license is required.

Nice to have

  • 7+ years of build reliability experience with spacecraft, launch vehicles, aviation, robotics, or defense hardware.
  • Practical familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar quality systems.
  • Experience with FMEA, reliability growth, and Weibull analysis.
  • Experience working closely with technicians and production teams through rapid development or prototype-to-production transitions.
  • Familiarity with propulsion assemblies, including valves, cryogenics, high-pressure systems, injectors, feedlines, and fluid systems.
