TL;DR
Power Electronics Engineer (Space): Designing and testing DC-DC converters and electrical power systems for space-based data centers with an accent on high-efficiency power conversion, harsh-environment reliability, and spacecraft integration. Focus on selecting converter topologies, solving EMI/EMC challenges, developing PCB hardware, and validating systems through modeling and comprehensive test campaigns.

Location: Redmond, Washington, United States. Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for authorization under U.S. export regulations.

Salary: $100,000–$130,000 per year for Level I or $120,000–$175,000 per year for Level II.

What you will do

  • Lead the design, analysis, and testing of DC-DC power converters for harsh space environments.
  • Design electrical power systems and subsystems, conduct design trades, and develop requirements.
  • Define and perform electrical power verification testing and analysis.
  • Optimize power conversion systems for efficiency, reliability, cost, and mass.
  • Resolve EMI/EMC issues and perform advanced modeling, simulation, and testing.
  • Lead schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring-up, system integration, and test campaigns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM discipline.
  • At least one year of professional experience developing power converters.
  • Experience with DC-DC topologies, analog control, discrete logic, voltage and current mode control, and compensation design.
  • Experience with power electronics modeling, simulation, testing, and packaging for harsh environments.
  • Knowledge of spacecraft electrical power systems, radiation effects, solar arrays, and lithium-ion battery safety and use.
  • U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or eligibility for authorization under U.S. export regulations is required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with failure mode effects and criticality analysis.
  • Experience designing wire-wound and planar inductors and transformers.
