Power Electronics Engineer (Space Solar)

What you will do

• Design, qualify, and transition high-voltage power conversion systems for solar array conditioning into scaled production.
• Flow down system requirements, analyze design trade-offs, and develop hardware from system topology through schematic and PCB layout.
• Design, manufacture, and test prototype hardware on rapid iteration timelines.
• Select manufacturing methods and equipment that support low-cost, scalable production.
• Collaborate with adjacent teams to integrate hardware into viable mechanical systems.
• Define qualification and acceptance criteria for mechanical, thermal, and radiation reliability in space environments, including management of hazardous high-voltage testing.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 2 years of experience building, testing, and debugging PCB assemblies.
• Ability to learn new skills and theory quickly to meet project requirements.
• U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, refugee or asylee status, or eligibility to obtain the authorizations required under U.S. Government export regulations.
• Willingness to work on-site in Los Angeles (Hawthorne), California, as specified for the role.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience designing high-efficiency DC power converters and protecting against arcing, partial discharge, and insulation breakdown.
• Experience applying IPC and NASA standards for terrestrial PCBs and spaceflight hardware.
• Experience scaling space hardware, owning products from prototype through production, and developing test fixtures, harnesses, and other support hardware.
