TL;DR
Electromechanical Engineer (Robotics): Designing, prototyping, and deploying rugged electromechanical systems for automated construction machinery with an accent on enclosures, actuators, linkages, sensors, and wiring harnesses. Focus on building systems that withstand vibration, impact, water ingress, and outdoor exposure while supporting rapid fabrication, testing, and field deployment.
Location: On-site at Robot Ranch in Austin, Texas; must be willing to relocate to Austin if not within commuting distance.

What you will do
- Design mechanical systems including enclosures, actuators, linkages, mounts, brackets, and wiring harnesses for remote heavy machinery.
- Rapidly prototype and iterate components using 3D printing, CNC machining, and in-house fabrication methods.
- Build, integrate, test, diagnose, and repair electromechanical assemblies for field deployment.
- Design systems to withstand vibration, impact, water ingress, mechanical fatigue, and outdoor exposure.
- Collaborate with electrical and software engineers, vendors, manufacturers, and fabricators to deliver feasible, cost-effective parts.
- Maintain CAD models, mechanical drawings, and repeatable assembly documentation.
Requirements
- B.S. in Electromechanical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
- Hands-on experience designing and assembling mechanical systems with actuators and sensors.
- Proficiency with mechanical prototyping, 3D printing, machining, and basic fabrication tools.
- Familiarity with mechanical fatigue, waterproofing, ruggedization, and field deployment challenges.
- Ability to collaborate across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines.
- Willingness to work extended hours or weekends when required and to relocate to Austin, Texas.
Nice to have
- Experience with electromechanical systems for drones, electric vehicles, aircraft, or robotics.
- Experience with brushless DC motors, multi-bar linkages, kinematics, microcontrollers, motion feedback, and sensor integration.
- Knowledge of structural analysis, material selection, EMI shielding, thermal management, and protective enclosure design.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape, or similar CAD tools and mechanical documentation.
- Electrical design experience and hands-on experience building electrical systems.
