BU Head Sensors (Robotics)

hirify.global is developing cognitive and humanoid robot platforms including MAiRA, MiPA, LARA, and 4NE1.

What you will do

• Define and drive the multi-year sensor technology roadmap across multiple robot platforms.
• Build, lead, mentor, and scale a team of sensor and perception engineers.
• Own functional safety qualification for sensor solutions from concept through certification.
• Define sensor fusion architecture using Kalman filtering, calibration, geometric fusion, and AI-based multimodal perception.
• Partner with Software, AI, Systems Engineering, and Certification teams on system performance, safety cases, and manufacturable hardware.
• Lead supplier relationships, make-or-buy decisions, budget planning, headcount planning, and sensor-domain escalations.

Requirements

• Substantial hands-on sensor experience in robotics; automotive ADAS sensor experience alone is insufficient.
• Working knowledge of functional safety standards including ISO 13849, IEC 61508, and ISO 10218, with experience taking sensor systems through qualification.
• Hands-on knowledge of multiple modalities, including LiDAR, radar, ultrasonic, tactile and force-torque sensors, camera systems, and IMUs.
• Practical experience with both deterministic sensor fusion and AI-based multimodal fusion approaches.
• Several years of experience leading a technical team or business unit, including building and scaling teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with industrial arms, mobile robots, and humanoid platforms.
• Familiarity with sensor-related standards bodies or working groups.
• German language skills.
