What you will do

• Own the architecture and integration of the central control system across laser, vacuum, beam transport, telemetry, and computer-control subsystems.
• Lead facility-level control system integration for an experimental fusion facility.
• Develop femtosecond-level synchronization with the high-power laser.
• Integrate physical systems into computer and control systems.
• Build, structure, and lead the controls team, including hiring, mentoring, and supporting team members.
• Define the long-term controls vision from the current experimental setup toward a future power plant.

Requirements

• Proven leadership of technical teams in a scientific or experimental facility rather than serial or factory production.
• Strong systems design and integration experience connecting complex subsystems into a working whole.
• Solid understanding of laser technology, ideally ultra-short pulse lasers and laser architecture.
• Experience working with software teams and a practical understanding of software development.
• Excellent stakeholder and project management skills, with strong communication and leadership abilities.
• Visionary approach to designing systems for future technical capabilities.

• Experience building a controls function or team from the ground up.
