Software Engineer Backend (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco or New York, with 3+ days per week in the office from Tuesday through Thursday

Base salary: $150K–$250K per year, depending on experience, location, and level, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and optimize Distillery, an AI-native platform for enterprise AI workflows.
• Develop secure, high-performance backend services and scalable AI infrastructure.
• Deploy services across AWS, GCP, Azure, and on-premises Kubernetes environments.
• Improve availability, security, observability, and reliability across AI-native workflows.
• Apply distributed computing, ML/AI Ops, and scalable service orchestration practices.
• Collaborate with forward-deployed engineers, AI researchers, and business subject-matter experts to turn operational needs into platform capabilities.

Requirements

• 3–10+ years of software engineering experience; multiple seniority levels are being considered.
• Strong backend and systems engineering experience with Python, Java, Golang, or C++.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, CI/CD, cloud platforms, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience building scalable, high-performance systems and services.
• Ability to travel 10–20%.

Nice to have

• Experience with security, distributed systems, storage, ML/AI Ops, or large-scale observability.
• Experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Cursor in engineering workflows.
