Senior Principal Manufacturing Engineer - SMT/PCBA (SMT/PCBA)

Location: Torrance, California, United States. US citizenship or qualifying ITAR authorization is required; a future security clearance may be required.

Salary: $183,500–$208,000 USD annually for roles hired in California.

What you will do

• Lead the planning, development, and implementation of pallet bonding equipment, SMT, and manual electronics assembly for low- and mid-volume production.
• Select, validate, and optimize manufacturing equipment and production workflows for PCB assembly.
• Apply lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and automation methods to improve efficiency, yield, and quality.
• Monitor process metrics, troubleshoot defects, and implement corrective actions.
• Partner with engineering teams on NPI by developing and iterating board- and box-level assembly processes.
• Develop PFMEA inputs, manufacturing plans, operating strategies, and training materials for technicians and engineers.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in manufacturing, mechanical, materials engineering, or production environments.
• Expertise in pallet bonding, SMT equipment, stencil design, solder paste application, reflow soldering, and AOI.
• Hands-on experience with pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, wave soldering, and conformal coating.
• Experience with commercial and dual-use electronics, COTS technologies, PCB manufacturing, and process engineering.
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly principles.
• Must be a US citizen or otherwise eligible under ITAR requirements; ability to work extended hours and weekends may be required.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of GD&T, factory automation, robotics, Factory 4.0, production systems, and lean manufacturing.
• Experience documenting assembly instructions using 3D models, diagrams, pictures, and text.
• Experience with SolidWorks, RF products, electromechanical assembly and test, and ISO9001/AS9100 systems.
• Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety practices.
