Senior Software Engineer (Scala)

Location: Washington, D.C.; hybrid work with regular in-person touchpoints and shared office space. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.

Base salary: $175,000–$195,000 annually, plus potential equity, bonuses, commission, and benefits.

What you will do

• Build and operate Apache Spark batch infrastructure that processes terabytes of data daily.
• Develop data services and machine learning infrastructure for risk signal generation.
• Design performant, maintainable microservices and REST APIs for query engines and web crawlers.
• Build and deploy microservices in Kubernetes and create ETL pipelines for data streams.
• Improve software architecture, performance, testing, and reliability across the distributed data platform.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists, DevOps Engineers, Front-end Engineers, Product Managers, Sales, and Technology teams in a client-facing environment.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Computer Science.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on platform engineering.
• Professional experience with Scala and/or Java and software running on the JVM.
• Strong understanding of concurrency, distributed systems, algorithm complexity, scalable algorithms, and performance.
• Experience with Apache Spark, HDFS, Iceberg, Airflow, MapReduce, storage and caching solutions, unit testing, and automated integration testing.
• Experience building microservices, Kubernetes deployments, ETL pipelines, and familiarity with machine learning techniques.

• Professional experience at a software startup.
