Principal Software Engineer - Java/AWS (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid work in Scottsdale, San Francisco, Chicago, or New York; candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.

Salary: $207,000–$276,000 per year in San Francisco; $173,000–$259,000 per year in Phoenix.

What you will do

• Define technical product designs, software architectures, engineering approaches, and a department-wide technical vision.
• Design and engineer complex end-to-end services using Java, cloud platforms, containerization, CI/CD, and automated testing.
• Partner with product management, software engineering, architecture, customers, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
• Set engineering standards, promote software quality, and support operational readiness, maintainability, and self-service capabilities.
• Provide technical leadership through presentations, coaching, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
• Support risk management and protect the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of experience designing and developing complex software projects, including 8+ years in fintech.
• Experience with Java RESTful web services, Spring Boot, microservices architecture, messaging frameworks, Oracle PL/SQL, and JavaScript frameworks.
• Experience with cloud application solutions, containerization, CI/CD, automated testing, DevOps practices, and secure development guidelines.
• Experience designing and building complex end-to-end systems, with knowledge of OOA/OOD and SDLC methodologies.
• Must independently possess eligibility to work in the United States for any employer; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Hands-on AWS experience, Terraform, Kubernetes or cloud certification, and application migration from on-premises infrastructure to the cloud.
• Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as Splunk, Zabbix, and AppDynamics.
• Knowledge of ACH/EFT and real-time payment networks such as RTP and FedNow.
• Experience with C#, Ruby, Python, or PHP.
• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in computer science or another technical field.
