Principal Software Engineer (AI)

Location: New York, New York, United States

Base pay: $250,000–$300,000 per year, plus potential performance bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and support highly available and scalable golden-source reference and master data systems.
• Develop cloud microservices on AWS and Kubernetes, including MCP servers, agentic workflows, and LLM orchestration solutions.
• Partner with business and technology stakeholders to analyze data and technical problems and deliver practical solutions.
• Lead architectural decisions, reusable components, AI solutions, and firmwide engineering frameworks.
• Own strategic cross-functional projects while improving reliability, security, performance, and supportability.
• Mentor engineers on software engineering, cloud, AI, and modern framework practices.

Requirements

• At least seven years of experience in financial services or hedge funds.
• At least three years of experience supporting listed and OTC instruments in a multi-strategy fund environment.
• At least seven years of object-oriented development experience; Java is highly preferred.
• Expertise in software design and architecture, preferably with stateful reactive microservices.
• Practical experience with generative AI, MCP servers, agentic workflows, and LLM orchestration.
• Experience with relational and in-memory databases, messaging systems, technical leadership, stakeholder communication, and mentoring.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, build automation, and React.
• Reference and master data management experience in financial services.
• Experience with in-house or vendor security masters.
• Interest or experience in financial markets, economics, or mathematics.
