Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Hybrid role requiring an average of 1–2 days per week on the customer site in Fort Meade, Maryland, with visits to headquarters in Columbia, Maryland, United States.

Salary: $137,510–$195,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex Java-based software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Build enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, and microservices-based solutions.
• Integrate AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Gemini into daily engineering workflows.
• Use autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementation, codebase refactoring, and unit and integration test generation.
• Manage context across complex, multi-repository architectures and audit agent-generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and team leadership in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required, and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance is mandatory.
• At least 9 years of software engineering experience with a related bachelor’s degree, 7 years with a related master’s degree, or 13 years with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong experience with Java, modern Java frameworks and libraries such as Spring and Guava, object-oriented programming, and enterprise software development.
• Experience with RESTful web services, microservices architecture, agile software development, and enterprise APIs.
• Experience with Linux and configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Availability for hybrid work at the Fort Meade customer site and visits to the Columbia headquarters is required.

Nice to have

• Active Secret security clearance.
• Experience with Claude Code, Gemini, or comparable AI-assisted engineering workflows.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, distributed databases, NoSQL databases, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Scripting experience and familiarity with data lakes or data warehouses.
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, GitHub Enterprise, or similar development tool suites.
