Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid; average of 1–2 days per week at the customer site in Fort Meade, Maryland, with visits to the headquarters in Columbia, Maryland. U.S. Citizenship is required, and a U.S. Government Security Clearance must be obtained and maintained.

Salary: $137,510–$195,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex Java software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Build enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, and microservices-based solutions.
• Integrate AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Gemini into engineering workflows.
• Use autonomous agents for multi-file feature development, codebase refactoring, and automated unit and integration testing.
• Manage AI-agent context across complex, multi-repository architectures and audit generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and team leadership while collaborating in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.
• 9 years of software engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree, 7 years with a master’s degree, or 13 years with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong experience with Java, modern Java frameworks and libraries such as Spring and Guava, object-oriented programming, and enterprise software development.
• Experience with RESTful services, microservices architecture, agile software development, Linux, and configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Experience serving as a tech lead, mentor, or engineering manager.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment with regular customer-site presence in Fort Meade, Maryland, and visits to Columbia, Maryland.

Nice to have

• Active Secret clearance.
• Experience with Claude Code, Gemini, autonomous agent-based development, and automated testing.
• Cloud experience with AWS or Azure.
• Experience with distributed or NoSQL databases and search technologies such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Experience with scripting, data lakes or warehouses, and tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and GitHub Enterprise.
