TL;DR
Hardware Test Engineer (Nuclear): Developing and executing thermo-hydraulic, materials, and mechanical test projects for advanced fission power systems with an accent on test planning, hands-on experimentation, data analysis, and regulatory compliance. Focus on designing reliable test methodologies, troubleshooting complex hardware tests, managing procurement, and coordinating multidisciplinary projects in a highly regulated environment.

Location: Onsite in Idaho Falls, Idaho, United States; travel up to 10%.

Salary: $90,000–$150,000 per year, depending on experience.

What you will do

  • Develop detailed test plans and protocols for thermo-hydraulic, sodium, materials, and mechanical testing.
  • Set up and execute hands-on experiments, monitor progress, troubleshoot issues, and ensure accurate test performance.
  • Collect, analyze, and report test data, identifying performance outcomes, risks, and actionable insights.
  • Manage test procurement, suppliers, equipment, tools, and material sourcing.
  • Lead testing projects from initiation through completion while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear, mechanical, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 4 years of hands-on test engineering experience, preferably in a highly regulated industry.
  • Experience with thermo-hydraulic, materials, and/or mechanical testing methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, project coordination, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Ability to lift, move, and position objects weighing up to 30 lbs in all directions.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate motor vehicles and machinery.

Nice to have

  • Advanced engineering degree.
  • Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition, and control methods.
  • Familiarity with NQA-1 test control requirements.
  • Experience managing end-to-end test projects and test procurement.
