TL;DR
Test Engineer, Design and Execution (Nuclear Engineering): Designing and executing test systems for first-of-its-kind advanced reactor technologies with an accent on hardware development, safety planning, and full-lifecycle test program management. Focus on developing test assembly packages, commissioning test facilities, integrating instrumentation, and conducting mechanical, thermal, and materials testing for high-temperature and high-pressure systems.

Location: Rockville, MD; 4 days a week in the office. Work may also take place in a designated facility laboratory area, including exposure to high temperatures, noise, vibration, hazardous chemicals, and cramped spaces.

Salary: Level II $90,000–$115,000; Level III $93,600–$156,000; Level IV $112,275–$187,125 annually.

What you will do

  • Design and develop test systems, equipment configurations, and test items for prototype advanced reactor technologies.
  • Coordinate with engineering and Safety, Health, and Environment teams on hazard identification, safety planning, equipment, infrastructure, and training needs.
  • Lead test system design reviews and prepare test plans, procedures, data packages, and reports.
  • Support in-person test setup, installation, commissioning, and execution at the test facility.
  • Manage the test hardware lifecycle from design and procurement through fabrication, installation, testing, and decommissioning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Typically 3 years of test engineering experience for Level II, 5 years for Level III, or 10 years for Level IV.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware development, testing, and experimentation.
  • Demonstrated experience with design of experiments and test planning.
  • Ability to work in the office and test facility, walk and move throughout the day, and lift at least 25 pounds.

Nice to have

  • Experience across the full technology development lifecycle, including design, testing, and integration.
  • Experience developing test assembly design packages with PFDs, P&IDs, CAD, ICDs, BOMs, and fabrication drawings.
  • Background in mechanical, thermal, and materials testing.
  • Experience with data acquisition, instrument electronics, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with ASME BPVC, ASME, and ASTM codes and standards for high-temperature and high-pressure systems.
