Software Engineer, Applied AI

Location: New York, NY; in person 5 days per week

Salary: $175,000–$290,000 base salary, plus equity and bonus.

What you will do

• Build and improve production agent systems across retrieval, tool use, document understanding, memory, and orchestration.
• Design evaluations and experiments to measure agent quality in production.
• Analyze traces, failures, and user behavior to guide product and architecture decisions.
• Work with operations, go-to-market, and deployed teams to understand real workflows and agent failures.
• Evaluate models, prompts, and system designs across enterprise tasks.
• Own the loop from idea through implementation, measurement, and iteration.

Requirements

• Strong engineering fundamentals and experience shipping production systems.
• Fluency in Python.
• Experience with LLM-powered products, agent systems, or adjacent applied AI systems.
• An empirical approach using logs, traces, experiments, and real usage to investigate problems.
• Strong understanding of how retrieval, prompting, memory, tools, and user experience interact.
• High ownership, comfort with ambiguity, and strong opinions about effective agent systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with retrieval, search, or ranking systems.
• Experience designing evaluations, benchmarks, or feedback loops for LLM systems.
• Experience building internal tools, workflow products, or operator-facing systems.
• Startup or other high-ownership experience.
• Projects involving agent harnesses, LLM evaluations, tool interfaces, memory systems, retrieval systems, model routing, or orchestration experiments.
