AI Engineer (Python)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco or New York, with 3+ days per week in-office from Tuesday through Thursday. Travel is typically 10–30% depending on the project and customer needs.

Base salary: $150,000–$250,000 per year, depending on experience, location, and level, plus equity and comprehensive benefits.

What you will do

• Build, deploy, and operate production AI systems in customer environments, owning system behavior, reliability, and business outcomes.
• Design compound AI workflows combining models, prompts, agents, tools, retrieval, evaluation, feedback loops, and execution.
• Develop maintainable Python services and application logic integrating AI capabilities with customer workflows, data platforms, APIs, and existing applications.
• Measure live-system behavior, identify failure modes, debug issues, and iterate to improve quality, reliability, and user value.
• Build evaluation frameworks, test cases, feedback mechanisms, and observability patterns for ongoing performance improvement.
• Work with customer stakeholders, subject matter experts, AI Engineers, and AI Strategists to clarify requirements and make pragmatic system design decisions.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building end-to-end applications powered by LLMs or other AI models, including prompts, agents, tools, retrieval, evaluators, workflows, and integrations.
• Strong Python and production software engineering fundamentals, including versioning, debugging, testing, performance, code review, and production readiness.
• Ability to take ownership of AI system outcomes, work through ambiguity, and balance delivery speed with robustness and maintainability.
• Ability to work directly with customer teams, communicate system behavior and tradeoffs clearly, and adapt to new domains.
• Ability to work from the San Francisco or New York office at least three days per week and willingness to travel 10–30%.
