AI Engineer

Location: San Francisco, hybrid

Salary: $220K–$260K annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Build and ship agentic product experiences, including chat-style and assistant-like interfaces, from prototype through general availability.
• Design reliable AI harnesses, execution flows, guardrails, and agent orchestration for production systems.
• Build internal automation and AI tooling that increases the velocity of engineering, research, and go-to-market teams.
• Partner with research engineers to turn internal research workflows into customer-facing features.
• Define and instrument evaluations to measure improvements in AI output quality.
• Implement end-to-end features across APIs, backend services, agent orchestration, and frontend interfaces, while resolving bugs and customer issues.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and shipping software applications.
• Demonstrated experience building AI- or LLM-powered products, agents, or agentic workflows used by real users.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to understand system, model, and harness behavior under the hood.
• Proficiency in Python and fluency in at least one other programming language.
• Ability to work autonomously in a fast-moving environment and move between customer-facing products and internal tooling.
• Strong communication skills for bridging technical depth and business needs.

Nice to have

• Founding engineer or early-stage startup experience.
• Experience building evaluations, agent observability, or tooling for non-deterministic systems.
• Familiarity with LangChain, Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, or MCP.
• Experience with supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, synthetic data generation, LoRA, or full fine-tuning.
• Frontend fluency.
