Senior Software Engineer - Android (Medical Devices)

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Android applications using Kotlin and the Android SDK.
• Own the architecture and implementation of technically complex features with a focus on reliability, performance, security, maintainability, and testability.
• Implement reliable communication between Android applications and connected medical devices using Bluetooth Low Energy and other protocols.
• Translate product and system requirements into designs, implementations, tests, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with embedded, systems, cloud, cybersecurity, quality, regulatory, product, and clinical teams on device interfaces, verification, validation, audits, and regulatory submissions.
• Investigate field issues using logs and telemetry, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions and risk controls.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• 7+ years of professional software development experience, including significant production Android development.
• Advanced proficiency with Kotlin and the Android SDK, including Jetpack libraries, Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Coroutines and Flow, dependency injection, and lifecycle-aware design.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, object-oriented design, concurrency, asynchronous programming, API design, and applications communicating with external hardware or connected devices.
• Experience developing automated unit and integration tests, diagnosing complex issues with debugging tools and telemetry, and designing software for testability.
• Experience with Git workflows, code review, CI/CD, modern software engineering practices, and cross-functional technical communication.

Nice to have

• Experience with medical devices, digital health, regulated products, or safety-critical systems.
• Knowledge of IEC 62304, ISO 14971, IEC 62366, FDA Quality System requirements, or related cybersecurity guidance.
• Experience with BLE connection management, GATT services, secure device communication, mobile performance optimization, and intermittent connectivity scenarios.
• Experience integrating Android applications with RESTful APIs and cloud services.
• Experience with risk management, requirements traceability, design controls, regulatory submissions, mentoring, or technical leadership.
